Faculty of Arts Study Abroad Opportunities

Fieldwork in Anthropology

There are numerous opportunities for fieldwork across Canada and around the world, working with your professors on their research projects. For example, how about working on a 4,000 to 6,000-year-old hunter-gatherer cemetery in Siberia, Russia? You'll travel 36 hours on the Trans-Siberian Railway followed by a seven hour ferry ride across Lake Baikal just to get close to the actual dig site. Contact the Department of Anthropology.

Archaeological Digs
Travel during the summer months to places like Greece, Italy or Northern Africa to help U of A professors unearth archaeological sites dating back over 2,000 years. Spend three to six weeks learning skills such as on-site drafting, excavation and cataloguing techniques. Contact the Department of History and Classics.
