TAWAW ANDREA MENARD! WELCOME!
The Faculty of Arts is proud to announce Andrea Menard is the new Aboriginal Student Advisor. Andrea is of Metis, Cree, Ojibway, and Abenaki heritage. Her ancestors come from the Red River Settlement and left in the late 1860's for North and South Dakota during the Louis Riel rebellions to escape persecution. They eventually settled in the north Saskatchewan area where both of Andrea's parents are from.
Andrea grew up in northern British Columbia and attended UNBC and UBC and got her law degree in 2004. After being in the field of law and defending Aboriginal treaty and Aboriginal peoples rights for a handful of years, she decided to come back and support Aboriginal students at university. She was recently at the Faculty of Law as the Director of Indigenous Academic Services, but is now with us as the Aboriginal Student Advisor.
Please come and meet Andrea, 6-5 Humanities Center anytime.
ABORIGINAL ARTS STUDENT COUNCIL
The Aboriginal Arts Student Council (AASC) is starting up this 2012 year. If you are interested in joining this council, please contact Andrea Menard at:

Happiness Creative Project
Thank you to everyone who attended the Happiness Creative Project. We had an excellent turnout and a lot of fun and creativity was had by all.
Special thanks to Aaron Paquette for hosting the Workshop.

Happiness Creative Project, April 11 & 12
You are invited to attend:
Happiness Creative Workshop
at Quad
April 11 & 12, from 10 AM - 3 PM
Hosted by: Aaron Paquette
Aaron Paquette is a Cree/Metis artist with whom the Arts Aboriginal Student Council and the Faculty of Arts are inviting to debut for the Happiness Creative Workshop.
Drop-ins are also welcome.
The "Happiness Creative Project" was inspired from the "Turtle Island" concept in Aboriginal culture. The public is invited to delve in and create their own island of happiness at Quad, in a tent (so we are close with nature) with Aaron. We will have earth-based materials and art supplies on-hand to work with. No experience is necessary.
This workshop is explicitly about creating something in the present, and implicitly about learning about Aboriginal ways-of-being while working with art.
Food, beverages, and give-aways will be provided!
Here is a welcome message from Aaron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KJPfEg7iGs&feature=youtu.be
